Location strategy

A company’s business strategy leads to locational challenges in creating or reducing new operations/ facilities. A strategic approach to these challenges is the use of scenarios:

  • do we want to cover a region with one, two or five customer support centers or distribution centers?
  • is it better to build a new plant in Asia and ship the products to Europe and the US and sell the products there or is a postponed manufacturing model the preferred option?
  • what is the right mix of onshore, nearshore and offshore locations for our back office activities?

The use of scenarios means:
  • definition of scenarios
  • assessment of the various scenarios
    • financial assessment
    • qualitative assessment (business environment, talent, suppliers, etc.)
    • risk assessment
  • analysis and review of all assessments
  • recommendation
